Taxes Going Up Even If Property Values Fall
Home Realty If home values are dropping, why are property taxes rising? It’s an enigma sure to boggle the minds of homeowners this fall, when the town’s home revaluations are finalized and a new tax rate is set. “That’s what we’ll be looking at,” said Assessor/Administrator Priscilla Hogan, who explained the “seesaw” balance makes sense because, even though values may fall, the town still has to raise a certain amount of revenue.
